FLIGHT ACADEMY STUDENTS

NEWS FLASH

The National Commander has change the requirements for students at the flight academy.  Academy STUDENTS are NO LONGER REQUIRED to take any of the courses listed in the June 26th update.  These topics will be covered in the safety briefing at the beginning of the academy.

********************************

June 26, 2009

Cadets,

Flight academy is three weeks away.  As that date gets closer, you must be sure to check this updates page regularly.

There are new requirements we received from the CAP National Commander requiring your immediate attention.  Some additional training must be completed prior to coming to the academy.

Specifically, what is required is you must complete the following four mini courses :

1.    Basic ORM course and open book testThe Basic ORM Course is located at:
http://www.capmembers.com/safety/orm.cfm
Students and staff can view the ORM worksheet at:
http://capmembers.com/media/cms/V1_Tab3_94277D5C1AA7E.pdf

2.    SSA Wing runner course and open book testThe “Wing Runner Course” is available at:
http://www.soaringsafety.org/school/wingrunner/toc.htm

3.    AOPA Aerodynamics course and open book test AOPA Aerodynamics course and test (with certificate) are located at:
https://www.aopa.org/asf/osc/loginform.cfm?course=aerodynamics&project_code=&

4.    CAP Ground handling video and open book test
The  “Ground Handling” video is located at:
https://www.capnhq.gov/CAP.MultiMedia.Web/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fCAP.MultiMedia.Web%2fVideo.aspx.

You must complete these courses before you arrive at flight academy.  Completion of these mini courses should not take more than two to three hours.  Sorry for the late notice, but this is a new requirement over which we have no control.  Three weeks should be adequate time to complete the courses.  Please bring your records of completion of these required courses to the flight academy - we have to check off completion.

This year LtCol Dave Odette’s company, DigiKey Corporation, will be supplying the flight academy with water bottle carriers.  These carriers make it very convenient to have water with everyone all day.

Each cadet and staff member is asked to bring for their use at a minimum ONE CASE of bottled water.  The academy will also have some bottled water for staff and students.

That’s all for now.

June 16th 2009

We are now just under five weeks until Flight Academy.  Tuition and book payments should all be in.  My last look indicated that isn’t the case.  In addition to the payments, the three things you must have to attend Flight Academy are:

  1. Your medical (power) or Student permit (glider)
  2. Your birth certificate
  3. Current CAP ID card

Please keep a close eye on the “Update” page.  This is the only place you will get information from now until the Flight Academy.

It’s just six weeks until you arrive at the Flight Academy.  We are all looking forward to a very tough, yet fulfilling week.

This note is a reminder that you must have your medicals requirement met before arriving at the Academy.  You can find all that information AND updates regarding the Flight Academy at the MN Wing website.  If you have questions check out the “Frequently Asked Questions” section.  There is a tremendous amount of information on the site.  Check it out.

Again, look for updates to the site regularly.  This will be the last individual communication regarding the Academy.

See you in six weeks.
